Morning Center Mobile Maternity Care Units

  • Morning Center Mobile Care Units

Low income mothers desperately need quality prenatal care to learn how to care for themselves and their growing babies.  And yet this is the group of mothers most likely to not get prenatal care, sometimes even showing up in labor in the hospital ER never having seen a doctor. In these sad circumstances, many premature, low birth weight babies struggle to survive. These babies are 5 times more likely to lose that battle for life.

The most common reasons women give for getting little or no prenatal care are: transportation problems; no insurance; and poor treatment by clinic staff. The Morning Center wants to meet these needy women where they are with Morning Center Mobile Care Units.

The Mobile Care Units will be uniquely suited to the communities that they are serving. There will be a variety of MCU vehicular models ranging from minivans carrying essential prenatal equipment to RVs with state of the art exam rooms and 3D ultrasound technology.

The MCUs will bring the Morning Center gold standard of care right into the poorest neighborhoods. By setting up rooms for prenatal visits at local church facilities (or if the MCU is an RV, in a parking space at churches and community centers) MCUs will also accomplish another important  goal of connecting new mothers with churches and local ministries that will provide the long term counseling and support needed, particularly for young mothers in difficult circumstances.

By operating with unconventional afternoon and evening hours, MCUs make it easy for mothers to get prenatal care without taking a day off work. And with a family friendly atmosphere and child care provided, mothers won’t feel as though they have to get a babysitter to go to an appointment.

The Mobile Care Units will be staffed by medical missionaries; fully trained nurse midwives and OB doctors showing the love of Christ with the quality care they provide.  All services are provided to women free of charge.

Morning Center mobile care units will be a precursor to establishing a Morning Center charitable maternity hospital in that city.

The Morning Center was founded in 2011 to provide free full-service pre-natal and maternity care to women in urban and under-served areas. It is a project of Samaritan Ministries International, a 501(c)(3) Christian charity. The Morning Center seeks to return charitable maternity care to a private, patient-centered model.
